This is the first review I've ever written on Amazon...this book deserves it. A wonderful smorgasbord of writers create a great collective voice preaching realism, hope, patience, and understanding to a group of people who admittedly need all those attributes in spades. You, the Mets fan, deserve this book for every heartbeat that has skipped while watching a 9th inning pitch.
If you're new to advanced statistical methods, this book will tell you all you need to understand the deeper trends that run through baseball. If you're familiar with the sabermetric crowd, you'll find they have placed all the emphasis this year on the writing: the stats are far more focused and tailored to a book of this kind.
This is a book written with nothing but love for baseball. The roster of writers runs from Sports Illustrated Senior Writer Joe Posnanski to Deadspin founder Will Leitch, with a broad range of opinions and interviews included in between. The graphs are useful and easily understandable.
Note the quality of the editorial reviews above: all baseball people and writers of the highest order recognizing the excellent work of their peers. If you like baseball and reasoned thinking, you will love this book.

Amazin' Avenue Annual 2011 New York Mets Preview Eric Simon 9780879464608 Books Reviews
I loved the book, but missed the catchy/funny one sentence introductions to each player in the previous year's free version. Perhaps there was no way to match that particular piece of excellence.
The greatest value? Coverage of the minor leagues. The MSM in New York focuses exclusively on the Majors, and promotes a bring in the big star, sign the free agent, dump the prospect mentality that has not served the Mets well.
Amazin Avenue and other blogs have brought balance to this perspective, and allowed fans to get excited or at least hopeful about players in development before they arrive in Flushing. They almost make a pilgrimage to Binghamton -- or at least Coney Island -- seem worthwhile.
This book is a must for any Mets fan entering the 2011 Season. It provides the statistically driven analysis that is prevelant throught the Amazin' Avenue posts, fanposts and fanshots throughout the year. It does need more MS Paint images though.
Despite the fact that the authors of this preview fail to hold the great Jeff Francoeur in the high regard that a player of his caliber deserves, the 2011 Amazin' Avenue Annual is a fantastic primer for the coming season. This collection of great writing from great writers (Sam Page, too) should provide any Mets fan with both the objective information and, yes, even some hope to get through the season with the 2011 Mets.
Just got this last week and cannot put it down. Incisive, informative and with a superb tongue in cheek humour, its a book that I'll be dipping into for as long as the season lasts.
Thanks to Eric and the rest of the team
